I have spent my entire career — more than four decades — in underwater acoustics and naval systems.
I started in sonar in 1984 and went on to serve as Project Manager for some of the most advanced sonar integrations of their time: the CSU-83 sonar system for the Västergötland-class (A17) submarines, the flank array sonar on the A14 Näcken — the first Swedish submarine with a flank array system — and the integrated CSU-90 sonar suite for the Gotland-class (A19) submarines, all with Atlas Elektronik. I later managed the integrated HYDRA multi-mission sonar system from General Dynamics Canada for the Visby-class stealth corvette, and contributed to Submarine 2000, the Viking program, and what became the A26-class submarine.
On the mine warfare side, I worked on the Landsort-class MCMV upgrade and multiple MCM programs for navies around the world. I was also involved in one of the first commercial autonomous underwater vehicles — the Thales AUV, with an integrated payload of sidescan sonar, forward-looking sonar, multibeam echosounder, and sub-bottom profiler — and have since supported AUV, UUV, and USV programs globally.
Today I run Strategic Sonar Solutions from California, working with clients worldwide on business strategy, requirements, and technical sales for sonar and maritime autonomy. Recent work includes swarm-based MCM concepts with unmanned surface vehicles, multi-sensor payload demonstrations, and advisory work on the protection of critical underwater infrastructure.
I present regularly at industry conferences — recent papers include “Swarm-Based Mine Countermeasures: Enhancing Maritime Security with USVs” (MINWARA 2025) and “Future Hydrographic Solutions for Unmanned Surface Vehicles” (THSOA 2024). You will find me most years at DSEI, Sea-Air-Space, CNE, Ocean Business, Oceanology International, and IndoPacific.
A full list of my project history is on the Reference Projects page, and my published work is under Papers.
