MARSEC WEST 2024
MARSEC West 2024 is the 11th annual Maritime Security West conference, August 12 to 14, 2024, in San Diego, CA, was a great success. We demonstrated the WAM-V USV with a Norbit F11 forward looking sonar (FLS) and Ping DSP mapping sonar at the same time.
The FLS was mounted on a SIDUS Pan & Tilt unit that also had an underwater camera and light.
This event focuses on maritime security and brings together professionals from various sectors including the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and local law enforcement. It features technology demonstrations, an exhibit hall, and opportunities for networking and discussions on maritime security challenges and solutions.
I participated in the “The Hydrographic Society Of America “(THSAO) event in Lake Charles this week. I presented my paper, “Future Hydrographic Solutions for Unmanned Surface Vehicles.” However, the demonstration was canceled due to weather issues.
The Oceanographic International (OI) in London finally returned to its former glory after Covid. There were lots of people and customers, with demonstrations at the Thames.
It was great to meet so many friends and colleagues again.
I was involved in demonstrating my “Advanced Hydrographic Concept”, with a combination of Forward Looking Sonar (FLS) and Multibeam Echosounder (MBES).
The Sea-Air-Space in Washington, DC, in April, was a great event. Met a lot of partners and friends. The OPT WAM-V Unmanned Surface Vessel demonstrated the Mine Counter Measure Concept I put together, with FLS, MBES and a Towed Sidescan Sonar (SSS).
I attended the Combined Naval Event (CNE) in Farnborough May 21-23, 2024. This was a very well-attended exhibition; as usual, Defence Leaders did a great job organizing this complex exhibition.
My consulting specialties are Business Strategy, Go-To-Market, and Technical Sales for commercial and military maritime domains.
The applications in which I significant experience are Minehunting (MCM), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Maritime Domain Awareness, Waterside Security (WSS), Protection of Critical Underwater Infrastructure, and Hydrographic Applications.

Each Newsletter now has a short description of an actual trend in the sonar industry. Last trend was all about many Navies in South East Asia acquiring Submarines, and what consequences this has for future MCM and ASW applications.
The next Newsletter will cover the development of Unmanned Surface Vessels and what type of sonar systems they use as payload.
